The exhibition is the result of work commissioned by the International Committee of the Red Cross, portrays 15 families who lost relatives during the recent wars in the former Yugoslavia. Since 1991, the ICRC has been asked by families to trace 34,278 missing men and women from the wars between 1991-1995. The remains of half of them have now been found and identified often through DNA testing, the first time this ground breaking technique was used in the aftermath of a major conflict.
The exhibition has been on show in London, Belgrade, Sarajevo, Pristina, Mostar, Banja Luka, Zagreb, Strasbourg, Brussels, Ottawa, Berne, & Geneva.
Missing Lives, a photographic book from Nick Danziger is also available with text by best-selling author Rory MacLean.
